WE WILL BE YOUR VOICE IN NORTH BRUNSWICK GOVERNMENT

Mary J. Chyb and Jordan B. Rickards Republican candidates for

North Brunswick Township Council

The good people of North Brunswick are the reason for all the good things in North Brunswick.  You work hard to earn a living!  We will be your voice on the North Brunswick Township Council, and will vote with your interests first and foremost.  We are very grateful for all the good people who are part of our campaign.  Please contact us at mary@marychyb.com to join with us to make North Brunswick a more affordable and safer place we can continue to call our home.

We Heard from You ! ~ Here is What You Told Us is Important !

RECORD HIGH TAXES:  North Brunswick is among the most HIGHLY TAXED towns in the entire United States.  Our property taxes have gone up FIFTY PERCENT in 7 years!  We will hold the line on taxes so life-long residents can afford to stay in their homes, and we will use taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars wisely to “live within our means” with our Township budget, as we do in our own households.  And we will work to stop the steady exodus of businesses leaving North Brunswick!

North Brunswick's CRIME RATE is Among the WORST in Middlesex County:  North Brunswick ranks 5th worst out of the 25 communities in Middlesex County, according to the State Police.  We will support our local law enforcement to tackle gangs and violence, and ensure housing codes are enforced:  overcrowded homes with bedrooms in basements are fire and safety threats that can no longer be ignored!

North Brunswick's Over-Development Must Stop!  Our schools and roads are over-crowded.  We will pursue county, state and federal funds for open space, and pursue redevelopment, not over-development!

WATER BILLS That Drown Us!  We pay more for water in North Brunswick than our neighbors in the nearby towns!  The township budget showed water revenues of $6.8 Million but the cost to buy water from the supplier is $2.1 Million.  This does not add up!

  1. WHY VOTE?  Some people asked:  “Why should I vote?  I voted in the past, but nothing changed in North Brunswick.”  We ask you not to give up, but give us your vote on November 3.

TAXES

The North Brunswick Township Council raised your taxes to RECORD HIGH LEVELS this year when the economy is in severe trouble.  The Township Council raised our property taxes six points, even though there is a $6 Million surplus on a budget of $45 Million.  Many people are struggling to find or keep a job, and are struggling to keep their home.  We cannot tax ourselves out of a recession and the worst financial crisis since 1930.  South Brunswick kept taxes to a zero-increase this year, using surplus funds and cost cutting – why raise our taxes in North Brunswick when our neighbors in South Brunswick can stay at a zero-tax-increase?  We can do better in North Brunswick.  On the North Brunswick Township Council, we will work to keep our taxes to a zero-increase.

In the past seven years, our property taxes have increased 50%.  Sadly, life-long residents have had to sell their homes and leave town, leaving behind children and grandchildren.  The Thanksgiving dinner table of the past had three and more generations gathered together; this is a blessing that is becoming rare.

CRIME RATE Among the WORST in Middlesex County:  North Brunswick ranks 5th worst out of the 25 communities in Middlesex County, according to the State Police.  We will support our local law enforcement to tackle gangs and violence, and ensure housing codes are enforced.  The tragedy in North Brunswick crime statistics is that violent crimes have increased.

HOUSING CODES NEED ENFORCEMENT

While our economy is in serious trouble, too much of North Brunswick tax payers’ hard-earned dollars are being consumed due to overcrowded houses where people live in violation of our housing codes.  These houses are fire threats and strain our township schools and resources!  Everyone we speak to in North Brunswick knows of at least one house where there are more people than should be allowed, living in basements and rooms that were not meant to be bedrooms.  Sadly, the safety and lives of the people living in these conditions are in danger.

BUSINESSES LEAVING

In our past, North Brunswick’s business and industry ratables, in combination with the township administration’s fiscal responsibility, made taxes among the lowest in the region.  We will provide the real leadership to regain that balance between residents, business and industry.  There has been a steady exodus of businesses leaving North Brunswick, and the businesses remaining have told me how hard and expensive it is to do business in North Brunswick.  Johnson & Johnson, Snapple and L’Oreal are world leaders in business that have left North Brunswick.  These three companies left in 2004.  Five years have passed and there has been no progress in adding businesses that lower your property taxes.  We will work to attract business and industry in North Brunswick, and make it easy for them to stay

OPEN SPACE – NOT OVER-DEVELOPMENT

The North Brunswick Township Council has approved building projects for contractors and left us with over-crowded schools and roads.  We will freeze over-development, work on redevelopment, and pursue county, state and federal funds to help preserve open space and get relief for our congested roads.

WATER BILLS - A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP

Another financial hardship in North Brunswick is seen on our water bills.  The township budget showed water revenues of $6.8 Million but the cost to buy water from the supplier is $2.1 Million.  Ask your friends and relatives in other towns what they pay for water.  My water bill is twice as much as my friends in East Brunswick.

WHY VOTE?  Got Balance?

Why should you vote?  Elect Mary Chyb and Jordan Rickards to add balance to the North Brunswick all-Democratic Council and Mayor.  With your vote on November 3, we can make North Brunswick a better, safer, more affordable place to live and raise families, a place where life-long residents can afford to stay in their homes.  People have asked:  “Why should I vote?  I voted in the past, but nothing changed in North Brunswick.”  We ask you and everyone in North Brunswick not to give up on North Brunswick.  Don’t give up; give us your vote on November 3.

We are very grateful for all the good people who are part of our campaign.  Please contact us at mary@marychyb.com to join with us to make North Brunswick a safer and more affordable place we can continue to call our home.

Thank you very, very much for your vote and all your support !!

Our 2009 election made history:

• Chris Christie and Kim Guadagno won Middlesex County !!

• We did not get enough votes in North Brunswick but we are moving in the right direction with better results this year than last:

candidates
